School breaks

‘Kalamindas’ comes to mind

with the pink cotton candy

or fairy floss elsewhere called,

for which the fervour, rather frenzy

spun out of control,

to make up for the nervous energy

expended over plays and histories,

facts and figures

all within tight confines and strictures.

There were the crushed ice lollies

to soothe the peppery palates

after some caustic condiments

to accompany the ‘dholpuris’

or the ‘de chine’ guavas

dipped in hot salty chillies.

So the gustatory adventures

with some ‘in vivo’ learning thrown in

made schooling

fun after all, seriousness not excepting!
