« L’avoué Me Gilbert Noël a eu cette idée », a déclaré cet après-midi l’ancienne présidente de la République, Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, lors de sa première comparution devant la Commission d’enquête présidée par le juge Asraf Caunhye pour faire la lumière sur le coup d’Etat constitutionnel alléguée.
Ameenah Gurib-Fakim a affirmé que l’exécutif et l’Attorney General lui ont « tourné le dos » face à la crise qui gagnait en intensité à la State House. Celle-ci concernait les controverses entourant les dépenses effectuées à partir de la Platinum Card que lui avait offerte la fondation d’Alvaro Sobrinho, Planet Earth Institute.
« I had been completely isolated », a-t-elle soutenu.
« On the 14th of march I received the advice of Mr Yusuf Mohamed and later on Mr Gilbert Noel. This is how the idea of the commission came up. Mr Gilbert Noel came up with the idea. I was not given the impression that this was negative… My idea was in the interest of the people for the people to know the truth about what was going on ».
Face aux questions du président de la commission d’enquête, Ameenah Gurib-Fakim a précisé, au sujet de la commission d’enquête avortée (dont la présidence était confiée à sir Hamid Moollan, QC), que « Mr Noel and Mr Hyderkhan drafted the terms of reference ».
Et d’ajouter : « They came in in the morning at the State House. It was noon when they had finished. Mr Mohamed told me to hold on. I wanted to be clear. He said he will go and see with Sir Hamid. The context matters with the pressure that was on me. Yousuf Mohamed said “legally you can’t but tactically you can” (regarding that commission). And I thought whatever my legal advice was saying was right… »
